Congratulations to Grace Walley, Justin Somers, and Hayden Robinson for recently reaching athletic milestones!

Walley became the ninth person in Walton school history to reach the 1,000-point club. Walley is a junior on the Walton-Downsville girls basketball team and the first to reach this mark since Jacqulyn Gransbury during the 2022-23 season.

Somers, a junior, hit the 100-win plateau for the Walton-Delaware Academy wrestling team.
The
Senior Hayden Robinson also reached the 100-win club earlier in December. Before Robinson and Somers, the last Walton wrestler to reach the mark was Noah Sovocool in 2023.

Congratulations to all three!

Students in Mrs. Saglimbeni’s first-grade class had a festive word game! Students dressed in reindeer headbands, and other students had to look at the pictures on other headbands and write what it was.

Fun!

This past weekend, the Hometown Family Christmas Show was held at the Walton Theatre. The show featured a collaboration of community members, Walton CSD staff, students, and alumni. Performing were the Walton Community Band, the Walton HS chorus, and the Townsend Elementary select chorus. Santa also made an appearance, and guests were treated to Santa hats, apples donated by Big M, and free popcorn for all children.

A special thank you to RSS, the Walton Theatre Preservation Association, Walton Community Band, and Music on the Delaware!

Students in 9th-grade ELA recently finished up reading “To Kill a Mockingbird.” As part of the finish to the book, the class used “readers theatre” to reenact the trial scene from the book. Students performed with enthusiasm and were all engaged and invested in the activity.

What a great learning experience!

Last week, SRO Beers was a rider on Walton CSD's school buses during the morning and afternoon, interacting with students and offering any safety support to the transportation staff. He's been on almost every bus run in the district at least twice this year.

High school health classes recently ended their alcohol prevention unit with stations that emphasized different skills and information from the unit.

A set of “drunk buster” goggles, donated last year by Nate Furman, were used. The goggles simulate different levels of impairment, ranging from a 04 BAC to .35. One stimulates night, another is fatigue, and there are ones for drug impairment as well.

Walton CSD SRO Bill Beers tested the students as a police officer would during a traffic stop. Students enjoyed the reality of this station, and how much the goggles actually interfered with their abilities.

Stations included:

- Finding a person’s BAC and determining what is happening to the body.
- Refusal skills to peer pressure.
- A “Dear Abby” letter to a student who needs help making a decision that is alcohol related, and the students need to use the DECIDE model to answer.
- Reflecting on how their current goals would be affected if alcohol was a presence in their life. This also correlated to what happened to them from a previous assignment.
- How alcohol affects the body.

This was a great lesson and situation to give students some real perspective on life situations and choices.
