WINTER SPORTS NOTICE:

If your child is interested in participating in a winter sport, please make sure all required forms are completed on Final Forms. You can access the forms at: https://waltoncentral-ny.finalforms.com/.

Additionally, your child must have an up-to-date physical on file in the nurse’s office in order to participate.

Important dates:
• Monday, October 27: Modified winter season No. 1 starts (girls and boys basketball)
• Monday, November 17: JV/varsity winter season practices begin

Students in Tracie Wood’s first-grade class recently participated in Doctor Day. With the help of parent volunteers, students rotated through five engaging stations, each focused on a different body system. Students put together a human-sized skeleton, built a “robot finger” to see how muscles and tendons move bones, and made dynamic models of the digestive and nervous systems. The first graders even had the chance to try our real doctor tools to explore how their own bodies work.

Congratulations to Darrin Walley who, on Friday, became the all-time leading rusher in Walton CSD history!

On his third carry Friday night against Deposit/Hancock, he broke the all-time record of 2,728 yards, which was set by Jim O’Donnell from 1981-1983.

Walley, who finished the game with 90 yards, has 1,036 yards this season, and now has 2,809 yards over four varsity seasons. Walton has three games remaining this year.

Way to go, Darrin!

The Walton chapter of the Lions Club came to Townsend on Wednesday to give free vision screenings to children who signed up. This service is provided to families once per year. This year, approximately 100 students were screened.

Thank you to the Lions Club for providing this service to our students!

NOTICE: The Guthrie dental van is scheduled to visit Townsend Elementary later this month, with dates at the MS/HS still being discussed.

Townsend Elementary, which will host the van from October 27-30, has sent packets home with students. If parents/guardians are interested in utilizing the dental van, please fill out the paperwork and send it back to the school.

For the middle and high schools, if you would like your child to be seen, packets can be picked up at the health office. Please contact the office if you need more information.

Homecoming weekend!

Thursday tipped off Homecoming Weekend as the annual pep rally took place at the end of the school day. Athletic teams were introduced, followed by the introduction of the Homecoming Court, and finally the senior game of musical chairs!

8:30 a.m.: Homecoming parade (starts at bus garage and then heads to high school; lineup is at 7:30 a.m.)

11 a.m.: Girls soccer vs. South Kortright
12 p.m.: JV field hockey vs. Windsor
1:30 p.m.: Football vs. Sidney
6:30 p.m.: Homecoming dance

It is Fire Prevention Week! A special thank you to the Walton Fire Department, which came to Townsend Elementary on Wednesday to speak with kids about what to do in case of an emergency. Students were able to see equipment, tour fire trucks and take part in several stations that showed what they need to do in different situations. A very important lesson!

The summer Crush Connects group recently had the chance to re-connect at the Uplands Center. The group spent the afternoon revisiting the theme of authenticity, spent time in the garden making scarecrows, going on a nature walk, and then creating fall pieces of art.
