Music on the Delaware recently sponsored a music workshop for Walton CSD high school band students.
Three performers from around the area joined together to play for the students. Led by Yolanda Bush, the trio talked about and then played music and rhythms from Trinidad to early American to the blues. The others in the trip were Evan Jangles on the double bass, and Wyatt Ambrose on guitar. Bush played the cajon and sang, with much of her focus about music that Africans brought with them and how that influenced music through the different genres throughout the years.
Students were involved in clapping rhythms with the trio, and were engaged in the music being shared. Walton CSD band director Raymond Bartlett noted it was a nice musical culmination to Black History Month at Walton.

Students in Sal Salvia’s construction class recently finished building the annual shed. This year, the shed was made for Arlene Utter, a former student of Salvia’s. Utter purchased all the materials for the shed, which is 8 feet by 12 feet.
The shed has architectural style shingles with a Gable roof style. It has a 5-foot double door and a sliding window on the back wall. The class used 1/2-inch plywood for the siding. They also painted the shed. The shed was built inside the shop because of the cold winter months.
This year, 30 students took part to build the shed, as well as the model of the shed. Some students mentioned that the model shed that they take home was more difficult to build than the real shed.
Students who finished the model sheds built other projects, such as baseball bats, a fishing net, cool boxes, a small tool shed for Mr. Salvia, and a bedroom shelf. All students also used a touter to put their name into a wood sign that was mounted inside the shed.
