The small animal class has been learning about the many different dog breeds, and the groups of which they are a part. The students then held a dog show.
Part of the lesson was to create a cutout that had to be as life-size as possible. an AKC (American Kennel Club) breed, and the dog needed to be wearing a collar and leash, among other basic assignment requirements.
After creating their dogs, students were tasked to show their dog. Judges were Art Loomis (HS principal), Ryan Ashlaw (MS/HS assistant principal), Denise Webler (HS secretary), and Gayla MacGibbon (student services secretary).
Winners were:
Herding group: Alice the Austrian Shepherd, shown by Grace Walley
Hound group: Peanut the Beagle, shown by Grace Walley
Non- Sporting: Loaf the Shiba Inu, shown by Izabella Armstrong
Sporting group: Queen Midas the Golden Retriever, shown By Samantha Barnes
Terrier group: Jess the Jack Russell, shown by Arwen Tracey
Toy group: Charlie the Pomeranian, shown by Jaylin Clinton
Working group: Gary the Great Dane, shown by Darrin Walley

Townsend Elementary starts “Kids Heart Challenge!”
Townsend Elementary is kicking off a service-learning program called “Kids Heart Challenge.” This is for grades 3-5.
Parents can register their students by visiting: http://www2.heart.org/site/TR?fr_id=9739&pg=company&company_id=462250.
This is a fundraiser for the American Heart Association. Students will raise funds and through fun activities, they’ll discover ways to take care of their hearts and brains while practicing kindness, gratitude and learning ways to de-stress. Students also have the chance to earn PE equipment for the school!
