The Walton CSD varsity field hockey team held a senior teacher appreciation game. The three seniors invited a teacher who has played an important role in their success as student-athletes. Seniors Addyson Trimbell, Reese Underwood, and Caragh O’Connor chose to honor Mrs. Rosa, Ms. Dieter, and Mr. Wagner. Walton CSD senior Amelia Somers had an impressive showing at the World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin. The show is the largest dairy show in the world. She was awarded Reserve Senior and Reserve Grand Champion of the Junior Show. Amelia’s cow, GITANA, is eight years old, and was in the aged cow class. The animals that reach this level have already won at each step before it, and there were 15 in the class. In a cow show, the Reserve Senior Champion and Reserve Grand Champion are titles given to cows that are judged to be the second best in their respective categories. The Senior Champion is typically an older cow that has already produced offspring, and the Reserve Senior Champion is the runner-up in that category. The Grand Champion is considered the best overall cow in the show, and the Reserve Grand Champion is the second best overall. These titles are important because they recognize the quality and characteristics of the cows, such as their conformation, udder quality, and overall health. Join us in wishing Amelia congratulations for an impressive and superb showing! Way to go! #WeAreWalton #WaltonCSD #WaltonPride

The Walton Central School District high school hosted its annual freshman orientation night Tuesday, welcoming incoming students and families. The event provided an opportunity for students to meet their teachers before the start of the school year, and to get a preview of classes they will be taking. Additionally, students were able to familiarize themselves with the layout of the school, practice using their lockers, and learn where their classrooms are located. The orientation also gave insight on what it takes to succeed in high school, including an explanation of credit requirements, and the different Regents diplomas, which helped to ease the transition and set the stage for a successful year ahead. #WeAreWalton #WaltonCSD #WaltonPride

Students taking driver’s education this summer took part in a session with representatives from the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council (ADAC) of Delaware County this week. During the session, representatives from the ADAC took students through a sober speedway impaired driving obstacle course, as well as other activities such as a field sobriety test and other hands-on games while using impairment goggles. Though students had fun during the session, they were also taught what could happen to them legally in these situations. The students used a pedal car to navigate the obstacle course while wearing the goggles, giving them the experience of seeing what real-life consequences can come from driving impaired. After driving the course students were given tickets for what they did wrong – such as running over a cone, or sideswiping a tree etc. It was also explained what could happen to them if this was real – such as possible punishments. Representatives from the ADAC were Alysia Schmidt and Susan Fairchilds (prevention educators), and Bobbi Perry (recovery coach). Thank you to the ADAC for putting on this important session! Please see more photos on our website! #WeAreWalton #WaltonCSD #WaltonPride
