Sixth graders in the first-quarter Makerspace recently raced their cars for the quarter championship. The cars were designed in Tinkercad, and built through the Makerspace’s 3D printer, Glowforge, and Cricut.
Autumn Beardslee’s car came in first place, traveling a distance of 24 feet, 1 inch. Awesome job!

Earlier this fall, seventh graders visited the Fenimore Farm in Cooperstown. Social studies teacher Dave Burnsworth organized the trip as an activity to enhance the Native American Cultures unit students were working on.
Students participated in the “Six Nations Iroquois Life” tour where they learned about the history and culture of the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) people native to New York. They visited a Seneca log house from the early 1800’s, a replica Mohawk bark house constructed by 8th-grade students from Cooperstown Central School, and toured the Thaw Collection of American Indian Art inside the Fenimore House.
Students were led by museum educators through the exhibits and experienced what life might have been like for Native Americans living on the banks of Otsego Lake prior to the arrival of European settlers.

The summer Crush Connects group recently had the chance to re-connect at the Uplands Center. The group spent the afternoon revisiting the theme of authenticity, spent time in the garden making scarecrows, going on a nature walk, and then creating fall pieces of art.
