State Police and Delaware County Sheriff's Office K-9 units, and Walton CSD administrators

The Walton Central School District partnered with the New York State Police and Delaware County Sheriff’s Office for a hold-in-place drill Tuesday morning at the middle and high school. Two State Police K-9 units, and one from the Sheriff’s Office assisted in the drill.

The drill is held annually and was completed in about 25 minutes. Law enforcement, along with school administrators, conducted a K-9 sweep of the entire high school and middle school.

Trooper Darrell Dening (with K-9 Trick, a WCS conducts hold-in-place drill), Trooper Matthew Strobeck (with K-9 Simpson, a German Shepherd), and Deputy Kyle Karcher (with K-9 Eli, a German Shepherd) worked in conjunction with Trooper Daniel Hernandez and Sergeant Eric Alexander and administration during the sweep.

“The drill was successful and, to my knowledge, this is the first time we’ve had the honor of having the State Police and the Sheriff’s Office helping with this drill at the same time,” said Walton Director of Technology Rick Robinson, who is also the district’s safety coordinator. “We want to thank the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and the State Police for supporting the district’s safety protocols and their willingness to assist with these types of search drills on an annual basis.”
