The Walton Central School District’s Torchmate plasma cutter has been fixed, thanks to several members of the WCS staff and community.
Walton CSD staff members Rick Robinson and Dan Hodges, as well as WCS graduate Dan Cucciarre, and DCMO BOCES computer technician Steve Gillan all worked to bring the machine and computer back to life, after it had not been used for several years.
The machine is currently being used by students in ag mechanics, as well as independent study students.
This machine allows students to cut designs and pieces for projects. The students create the program in AutoCAD and then input the program into the machine, which then does the rest. The students are using the machine to cut materials for final projects, as well as to create 3D dice. This machine, as well as new welding equipment, has allowed the district to expand and develop skills in this field.
