Two sophomores recently represented the Walton Central School District at this year’s Hugh O’Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Conference.

Celestine Mingle and Anthony Cetta attended the conference, which was held at SUNY Oneonta from May 31-June 2. The two are able to attend the conference thanks to contributions from the guidance department and the Walton Lion’s Club.

The two were selected after submitting about “What is leadership,” as well as an interview process of qualified sophomores.

HOBY is a leadership opportunity founded by former actor O’Brian in 1958. The organization’s mission is to inspire youth from around the world to pursue lives of leadership and service. Since its beginning, more than 445,000 students have participated in leadership seminars. HOBY has programs in all 50 states, as well as 20 countries.

Events at the conference included participation in informative workshops and activities with other high school ambassadors from across the state, as well as community service projects.
