Fifth grade wins Super Bowl of Math

In early February, the annual Super Bowl of Math Facts Challenge was held at Townsend Elementary.

The event is held over the course of several days, and students give up their recess time to take part. Students do timed math challenges and it is open to third through fifth grade. Teacher Jackie Smith oversees the challenge.

Over the three-day event, there were 345 tests taken.

A final-day push by the fifth graders helped them win with 945 points. The third grade finished second with 808 points, followed by the fourth grade with 285 points.
