Voters in the Walton Central School District went to the polls Tuesday, May 19 and approved the proposed 2026-27 budget of $26,921,300. Because the district went over the tax cap, a super majority of 60 percent plus one vote was needed to pass the budget.

The final budget vote was:

  • Yes: 247

  • No: 152

“Thank you to our school community for passing the 2026-27 school budget,” Walton CSD Superintendent Teresa Glavin said. “Our most sincere gratitude to every voter who came out to support our schools and demonstrate a commitment to fostering the continued growth of our Walton students, maintaining quality programming, providing a safe and enriching environment, and investing in our future.”

Voters also passed a proposition to allow the district to purchase up to three (3) 64-passenger school buses, and one (1) 48-passenger school bus with a wheelchair lift, at a cost not to exceed $735,000. The votes were:

  • Yes: 252

  • No: 146

Voters also elected two members to the Board of Education for three-year terms. The final tally was:

  • Kevin Verweire: 292

  • Cortnie Russell (write-in): 108

Also decided was the William B. Ogden Free Library budget. That was passed by a final tally of 235-161. The library budget is voted on via the school budget because of state law; however, it is not part of the district budget.

*Updated on May 22. The Board of Education accepted the final results of the budget vote. There are two corrections, however. In proposition 2 and proposition 3, votes were misread from the tape (6s were taken as 8s, which resulted in 20 more yes votes for each). The outcome did not change, but the results are changed above to show the final counts.
