Teresa Glavin

Teresa Glavin is settling into her new role as the Superintendent of Schools at the Walton Central School District.

Glavin, who was named the new Superintendent for Walton in February after a monthslong search, started in the position July 1 immediately after finishing her duties as the PK-12 principal at Franklin Central School, where she spent the last three years.

She takes over for Dr. Michael MacDonald, who retired after the 2024-25 school year.

“I have felt very welcome,” Glavin said. “I’ve hit the ground running and have been meeting with staff and key stakeholders. It’s allowed me to really get my feet wet. It has been nice to be involved early so I could get a feel for everything at Walton.”

Since starting at Walton, she participated in planning sessions with building administrators and faculty, attended the Rural Schools Association Conference, visited the Townsend Elementary Summer Reading and Math Program classes, and scheduled to visit the middle school and high school Crush Connect Programs.

Glavin’s background includes 16 years at Charlotte Valley in Davenport, where she taught third and sixth grades, and also served as the Reading First Coordinator and Data Coordinator. She followed that with an eight-year stay at ONC BOCES as a staff development specialist for 19 districts and two occupational centers, eventually becoming the ONC BOCES Instructional Support Services Director overseeing the Staff Development, Distance Learning, and Library Media departments. Following her time at ONC BOCES, she served as the PK-12 principal at Milford Central School for seven years.

She brings a wide variety of experience and said she looks forward to working with everybody at Walton.

“This has been exciting and energizing,” Glavin said. “I loved getting the chance to collaborate and engage with multiple stakeholders during strategic planning. I’m looking forward to establishing relationships with everyone in Walton, as well as settling into my role of looking at the big picture and seeing how all the intricate components support that.”

Glavin, a graduate of the Oneonta City Central School District, has spent her career in the area. Following high school, she earned her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from SUNY Oneonta. She received her administrative degrees from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA).

“Hard work is not something I’m afraid of and I want to participate in leading alongside the entire school community,” she said. “I’m overjoyed to get to work with incredible people. There are so many great things already established at Walton.”

Glavin said she’s excited to be a part of the community and looks forward to meeting students and parents and attending many school events.

The district is planning a meet-and-greet for community members with Glavin at 6 p.m. Monday, August 18. More information about that evening will be released soon.
