Walton CSD’s small animal care class recently hosted a Walton CSD graduate who talked about her journey to become a veterinarian.
Colleen (Beers) Anderson, who graduated Walton CSD in the Class of 2013, returned to her alma mater a few days after earning her doctorate from St. George’s University of Veterinary Medicine.
Anderson visited the class and talked about her career and how she got there. She talked about her different colleges, what kind of debt comes with this direction, as well as different procedures she has performed on various animals.
Following Walton, Anderson graduated from SUNY Delhi in 2015 with an associate’s degree in veterinary science technology. She then graduated from Liberty University in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in pre-vet (zoology).
Anderson has experienced a wide scope in the vet field, including taking mission trips to Honduras and the Cherokee Reservation in North Carolina, where she served those communities by helping with vaccinations, spay and neuters, and other treatments. She also has an upcoming mission to Navajo Reservation in Window Rock, Arizona.
She’s also been hired by Veterinary Emergency Group as an ER doctor and will be working in Shrewsbury, Mass for about half a year, and then relocating south to Virginia or Tennessee, where she will be practicing emergency medicine because she says she wants to help people and their pets when they need it most.
Thank you, Colleen, for returning to your alma mater and talking with our students!
