Class recognized for beautifying Townsend

Students honored by NYSSBA

Students from Crystal Wood’s fourth-grade class (last year’s class) were on hand at Tuesday’s Board of Education meeting where they were honored for a project at the end of last school year to beautify Townsend Elementary.

The class and district were honored by the New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA) with the Champions of Change award, and received a banner to hang at the school. NYSSBA Area 8 Representative Brian LaTourette was on hand to award the banner.

During the spring, the class received donations from families in the community, as well as staff members to help beautify the front of Townsend Elementary. During the day, they learned about planting, the importance of mulch, the difference between annuals and perennials, as well as having pride in their school and being part of the community.
