Creating mosaics for a downtown mural Students create mosaics for downtown mural
Thanks in part to an $1,800 grant awarded to art teacher Lara Fassler from the Michelle MacNaught Foundation, students were able to participate in creating mosaics with clay fish tiles. 
 
A total of 11 mosaics will be installed as part of a mural on the side of the Circle Antiques building on Delaware Street. 
 
Emily Jablon, a mosaic artist from Binghamton, came to Walton to work with students, bringing a plethora of glass tiles to choose from. She then showed the students how to cut glass and apply the glass to the mosaics, along with the clay fish tiles the students had made in class. 
 
Summer meals program flyer Summer meals to begin July 8
The summer meals program at Walton CSD begins Monday, July 8. Breakfast and lunches will be served to all youth aged 18 and under. The program will be at the middle/high school, as well as at Townsend Elementary. 
 
Meals are served Monday-Thursday and run through August 8 (at Townsend) and August 15 (at the middle/high school).
 
Corning Museum of Glass trip 2019 Class visits Corning Museum of Glass
Thanks to a grant from the A. Lindsay and Olive B. O’Connor Foundation, middle school art teacher Lara Fassler had the chance to take her 8th-grade class on a field trip to the Corning Museum of Glass. 
 
The $840 grant went toward the cost of the trip, which allowed each student the opportunity to create a free glass flower. It also helped provide pizza and drinks for all on the trip. 
 
Jim Root visits Walton CSD Television host visits Walton
Jim Root, who hosts the show “Reel Bragging Rights” on the Sportsman channel, visited the Walton Central School District earlier this week to speak to physical education classes in the middle school and high school.
 
Root, who is also the author of the book “Small-mouth Bass Fishing for Everyone,” delivered a presentation about following your dreams. His message showed how hard work can get people anything they want. 
 
Springs concerts set for Walton CSD
Three spring concerts are slated for the coming weeks at the Walton Central School District.
 
All three concerts will be held in the high school auditorium, are free of charge, and open to the public.
