Walton CSD named School of Excellence by NYSPHSAA
The New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) announced its 2016-17 Scholar-Athlete School of Excellence winners, and the Walton Central School District was one of only six Section Four schools to earn the honor.

To become a School of Excellence, a district must have 75 percent of its varsity teams qualify for and receive the scholar-athlete team award. Walton’s teams had 91 percent of its varsity teams qualify for the team awards, which are handed out at the end of each respective season.

To qualify for scholar-athlete teams, at least 75 percent of the team’s rosters GPA needs to be 90 or above.

The other Section Four schools qualifying for the honor were Bainbridge-Guilford, Newark Valley, Notre Dame, Owego, and Southern Cayuga.

“This is a tremendous honor,” said Andy Gates, Walton’s director of health, PE, and athletics. “We are proud of how hard our student-athletes work and it shows we have not only won on the athletic fields, but also in the classroom. I’m extremely proud of our students, coaches, and teachers for their work in earning this distinction.”
