Walton voters approve 2017-18 budget
Walton Central School District voters went to the poll on Tuesday, May 16 and approved the district’s proposed 2017-18 school budget and proposed school bus lease.

The $20,530,797 budget increases spending 1.97 percent or $397,571 over the current year and carries a tax levy increase of 1.37 percent.

The final count was:

• Yes: 585
• No: 337

Voters also approved a referendum to lease three school buses for five years at a cost not to exceed a maximum of $275,000 for the entire term of the lease.

The final count was:

• Yes: 606
• No: 314

Voters also elected Paul Wood and M. Graydon Dutcher to three-year terms on the Board of Education. Following were the vote totals for all candidates:

• Paul Wood: 694
• M. Graydon Dutcher: 665

• Joyce K. Bishop: 228
• Frank M. Ward: 220
• Nancy L. Meres: 79

"We are happy the voters passed the budget, which allows us to keep improving what we offer our students," Walton Superintendent Roger Clough said. "Our district continues to face a lot of challenges and we keep working as hard as we can to give our students the best opportunities so they can succeed in the future.”

Voters also approved the William B. Ogden Free Library proposition that requested $120,281 to support the library’s operations. The final vote was: 596-325.
