Walton CSD to hold public recycling event August 20
The Walton Central School District will once again hold a recycling event for community members to get rid of old electronics. In turn, the event will help the Walton CSD. 
The school will host a free computer and electronics recycling event from 1-6 p.m. Monday, August 20 at the school bus garage on Delaware Street. 
The event features Maven Technologies, a certified electronics recycler. The company guarantees security for the items people turn in, including complete data and/or physical destruction of data storage devices. The process goes through a highly secure facility, helping to maintain the security and accountability. 
Some of the items accepted include the following: Computers, laptops, modems, servers, peripherals, GPS units, cell phones, fax machines, copiers, CD players, IT equipment, audio/visual equipment, telecommunications equipment, televisions, monitors and microwave ovens.
Please note that no refrigerators or other household appliances will be accepted. CRT monitors or televisions will not be accepted.
The list of acceptable and unacceptable items is below.
List of Acceptable Electronic Equipment for Recycling
  • Computer devices: Computers, Laptops/Notebooks/Netbooks, Tablets/E-Readers, All-in-ones, Terminals
  • Monitors: LCD, Security, Terminals
  • Televisions: Flat Panel (LCD, Plasma, LED), Console, Projection
  • Networking devices: Servers, Routers, Switches, Hubs, Storage Arrays
    Printing: Printers, Fax Machines, Scanners, Copiers, Document Centers, All-in-ones, Duplicators, Plotters, Typewriters
  • Audio/Video devices: CD/DVD/VHS/Blue-Ray Players, MP3 Players, iPods, Projectors, Stereos, Video Game Consoles, Speakers, Receivers (audio, cable, satellite), Recorders, Converter Boxes
  • Communication Devices: Cell Phones, Smart Phones, PDA’s, Telephones, Pagers, Answering Machines
  • Power supplies: UPS’s (Uninterrupted Power Supplies), Surge Protectors
  • Peripherals: All items used in the function of these devices (Ie. keyboards, mice, speakers, pointing devices, etc)
  • Wire/Cabling: All cables, wires and power chords used in the function of these devices
  • Hardware: all parts that are, or once were, part of these devices (Ie. circuit boards, hard drives, RAM, processors, power supplies, optical/floppy drives, etc)
  • Batteries: Those from cell phones, laptops, UPS’s, and Power Supplies
  • Lab/Test/Measurement devices: Meters, Oscilloscopes, Analyzers, Testers, etc
  • Telecommunication Devices
  • Medical Equipment
  • Microwaves

List of Unacceptable Electronic Equipment for Recycling

  • Electronic Media: Used/Opened Data tapes, CD’s, DVD’s, VHS tapes, cassette tapes, reel-to-reel tapes, floppy disks, flash/thumb drives (loose), memory/flash cards (loose)
  • Household Hazardous Waste: Paint, Oil, Cleaning Supplies, Medication (pills, liquids, etc)
  • Liquids: Any and all liquids
  • Light Bulbs/Lamps: Fluorescent, Incandescent, HID, Flood, PL, Biax, etc.
  • Home Appliances: Washers/Driers, Dishwashers, Refrigerators, Air-conditioners, Dehumidifiers, Ovens/Stoves, Vacuum Cleaners, Lamps, Lamps, Toasters
  • Batteries: Alkaline, D-Cell, Button Cells (Lithium and Ni-CD)
  • Mercury containing devices: Thermometers, Thermostats
  • Sharps & Syringes
  • Gas Powered Equipment - Lawn Equipment
