WCS to present Meet Me in St. Louis
Cast of the 2018 Walton musical
The Walton Central School music department will present the musical “Meet Me in St. Louis” on Friday, March 9, and Saturday, March 10. The musical will be held in the high school auditorium with a 6 p.m. start time for each show.

Based on the heartwarming MGM film, Meet Me in St. Louis is a rare treasure in the musical theatre; a wholesome and delightful portrait of a turn-of-the-century American family. It is the summer of 1903, and the Smith family eagerly anticipates the opening of the 1904 World’s Fair. Over the course of a year, the family’s mutual respect, tempered with good-natured humor, helps them through romance, opportunity, and heartbreaks. Memorable musical numbers include “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “The Boy Next Door,” “The Trolley Song,” and “Whenever I’m with You.”

Meet Me in St. Louis is a Broadway musical based on the film that rocketed Judy Garland to fame as an adult movie star and singer. The story transports us back in time to the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis, where we meet Mr. and Mrs. Smith, their four daughters and one son. Romantic suitors, comedic misunderstandings, jovial pranks, and popular songs will delight audiences with nonstop entertainment.

The movie was nominated for four Oscars, and was named one of the ten best musicals by the American Film Institute. The Broadway production in 1989-90 was nominated for four Tony Awards, and won New York’s Theatre World Award.
This production will feature Alaina Tweedie in the role of Esther, Mara Little as Rose,  Joel Rhinehart as John Truitt, and Vinnie Escobar as Warren Sheffield.  Mr. Smith will be played by Ethan Sloven and Mrs. Smith by Emily Sulger.

Senior citizens are invited to attend the Thursday evening dress rehearsal at 6 p.m. March 8. This rehearsal/performance will be free and open only for senior citizens.

Advance tickets for the Friday and Saturday shows are $7 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets are available at Molto Espresso, Walton Music House, and at the high school office. Tickets at the door are $8 for adults and $6 for students.
