Third-grade class wins contest
poem winners

Each year, third graders at Townsend Elementary works on a short research project about the history and science of the Cannonsville Reservoir and the environment in library classes with Barb Geidel.

The final project is to write a collaborative poem and submit it to a contest run by the New York City DEP.

Angela Bayne‚Äôs class was selected as the winner for their outstanding poetry entry, which they submitted to the 32nd annual Water Resources and Poetry Contest.

The class was selected to recite their poem in celebration, but travel constraints made it difficult to get to NYC. A video was sent to share the presentation.

The class poem is below.

Watershed

Keep the watershed clean
New York City citizens drink that fresh water
Fisherman fish in NYC's beautiful reservoirs

We are the stewards
We guard against pollution

Walk and ride your bikes, drive less
Please don't litter
Pick up garbage, bottles, cans, McDonald's wrappers, coffee cups.

Ponds, brooks, streams, rivers all "shed" their water
Keep the watershed clean
