Middle school students work with kindergartners to create coloring book
For the second straight year, Walton CSD art teacher Lara Fassler utilized a grant from the Michelle MacNaught Foundation to help create and publish copies of a coloring book for kindergarten students at Townsend Elementary.

The book, titled “Coloring with Our Creatures” is a collaborative effort between seventh graders and kindergartners. The middle school students created, designed and colored imaginary creatures to teach kindergarten students the concept of mixing colors.

The seventh graders design imaginary animals during a fantasy creature unit. Elementary art teacher Lori Cucciare helped kindergarten students create their own imaginary animals to combine with those created by the middle school students.

At the end of the school year, a group of 15 middle school students delivered the book to the Townsend kindergartners. While there, they helped the younger students find their drawings and taught the kindergartners about mixing colors.

The grant from the Michelle MacNaught Memorial Fund helped cover printing costs to make enough copies for all of the kindergarten students and seventh graders who participated. The Memorial Fund is in name of Michelle MacNaught, a talented and young artist from Delhi who passed following a battle with cancer.
