Three spring concerts are set for May at the Walton Central School District.  

All concerts are open to the public and are free and open to the public.

The first concert is the middle school concert and is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 15. The high school concert will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, and the elementary concert is slated for 6 p.m. Thursday, May 24.

Despite a snow day on the actual “Pi Day,” the Walton middle school held its annual celebration of Pi Day with activities at the end of a day in March. 

Activities included a hula-hoop contest, reciting as many numbers of “Pi” as one could remember, and the ever-popular pie-eating contest.

The Walton Central School District held two unannounced emergency drills on Tuesday, one planned and one accidental. Both, however, gave the district real-time situations in which to react.

Both drills utilized the new emergency notification system through the voice over internet protocol (VOIP) phones.

Local retired Army Sargent Christopher McGinnis recently visited middle school and high school physical education classes to help wrap up a volleyball unit.

McGinnis, a Bainbridge-Guilford graduate, came to talk about and show what seated volleyball is. The sport is part of the Warrior Games, a multi-sport event for wounded, injured or ill-sevice personnel, and veterans organized by the United States Department of Defense.

Established in 2010, the Warriors Games are a way to enhance the recovery and rehabilitation of wounded warriors, and to expose them to adaptive sports.

The George F. Mack Middle School career fair was held this past week, giving students in grades 6-8 the chance to explore careers and hear from professionals in different fields.

This was the 11th edition of the career fair, which is held every two years.

Students signed up for presenters in the career fields they were interested in, and had the chance to spend time with the presenters and discuss what skills are needed and other information. It also gave students the chance to see what kind of education they would need for each career path.

The George F. Mack Middle School recently held its award assemblies for the second quarter, recognizing students who were named to the latest honor roll, Principal’s List, and Superintendent’s List.

Several students were also awarded Citizenship and Most Improved Awards in each grade. The assemblies were held in the high school auditorium.

This past fall, seventh-grade students in health education had the opportunity to visit Mary Imogene Bassett Medical Center in Walton.

Following the trip, students also had the chance to participate in an essay contest. Classes from various school districts participate in this program.

Walton student Rachel Trimbell recently found out that she won the contest. It’s the second year in a row a Walton student won the contest, as Madison Serra won last year.
