In October, fifth-grade classes participated in a program called “stream watch.” The program helped determine the health of the Delaware River.

Teachers Jean Maxwell and Judy Ogden, along with Katie Palm, who is an educator from the Catskill Center for Conservation and Development, ran the activities for the students. The fifth graders rotated through three stations and learned to make observations about water quality, based on physical, chemical, and biological data. The stream watch is a science-based program focusing on the health of waterways in the watershed area.

Elvin is a lion who has aspirations of sharing experiences with fifth graders and learning what each of them do in their day-to-day lives. Each student in Clark’s class is going to get to spend three days with Elvin. He can’t return to school until the time with each student is done. Once finished, he comes back to school and goes with the next student.
