Sal Salvia’s manufacturing class recently completed a project where they build a four-string box guitar with a wall-mount holder. 
During the project, the class worked in a manufacturing-style setup to make the pieces for the guitar. When that aspect was complete, they were divided up by choosing a number to find out which pieces each student would get to do for the final assembly and finish their own personal guitar.

Recently, Townsend Elementary students learned more about coding during library media class.
Walton CSD Librarian Barb Geidel said the students used’s sight into K-5 to introduce students to, or extend their learning, of computer language and coding.

Students in Jodie Day’s third-grade class took part in a writing celebration held by Senator John Bonacic’s office. 

According to a letter sent to students, the writing celebration received many outstanding poems, essays, and artwork, which exemplified the creatitivity of New York State’s young people.

Recently, Townsend Elementary held an assembly for fourth and fifth graders to hand out awards for honor roll, Principal’s List, and Superintendent’s List, as well as for the NED Citizenship, Do Your Best, Never Give Up, and Encouraging Others awards. 

Students in grades K-5 were also recently honored for quarterly academic, Olweus, and student of the week awards.

Eighth graders at Walton Central School had the chance to connect and learn about generations of their family history during a month-long project in Melissa Grossman’s social studies class.

The 70 students recently completed a three-part family history project as part of their studies of immigration, which is a required topic in the New York State social studies standards for 8th grade.
Using resources available through the popular genealogy website, along with obituaries from local funeral homes such as Courtney Funeral Home in Walton, information from the Walton Historical Society and local history enthusiast Richard Grossmann, family documents, oral histories, photographs, and ship manifests from the Statue of Liberty- Ellis Island Foundation, students traced their heritage with the goal of finding their immigrant ancestors. 

Access to was provided free to the students via a grant.
