The Alternatives to Violence program recently held a two-day workshop for students in grades 8-12. 
The workshop, which was held at New Hope Community Church, also welcomed students from Franklin. 
Activities were based on building community, teamwork, resolving conflicts peacefully, and building trust.

Sixth graders this year are taking turns in groups to learn proper etiquette of handling the American flag. 
Students come out, usually in groups of three, in the morning and afternoon and work with custodial Millard Gladstone to raise the flag, and then bring it in for the night. The students learn the proper way to fold the flag at night.

An annual fly-in breakfast was held in October at White Birch Airport in Hancock. 
The breakfast is sponsored by the Walton Central School Varsity Club. Members of the club helped with serving, taking tickets, and other activities associated with the event. Parents also bolunteered and helped cook the breakfast.

For the second straight fall, the boys and girls soccer teams paired up with KraftHeinz to work on a food drive. 
In October, during the final home games this season, teams collected non-perishable food items and personal hygiene items. 
All of the donations were delivered to the Walton Food Bank.

Students in Ian Clerkin’s fourth-grade class made relief maps of New York during a social studies lesson this past October. 
The students used textbooks to mold the salt dough into the shape of New York, complete with mountains and rivers. They then painted their finished products to match the topography of the region.

The Walton Central School District held its annual Scholastic Achievement Dinner recently in the high school gymnasium. The awards were for the 2017-18 academic year. 
During the awards portion of the dinner, the Board of Education also gave out its distinguished Service Award. BOE President Ronda Williams introduced winner, Pastor Larry Light.

At the first tournament of the year, held at SUNY Oneonta in late October, four members of the Speech and Debate team took first-place honors. 
Christian Vitek placed first in oral interpretation, and Celestine Mingle took first in original oratory. Chelsea Finch and Mara Little earned first-place honors in duo.
