"
I am a success today because I had a friend who believed in me and I didn't have the heart to let him down...
"
"If I had eight hours to chop down a tree, I'd spend six hours sharpening my ax"
Quotes from Abraham Lincoln
Dear Parent / Guardian:
We are entering the "home stretch" with only two months left in the 2012-2013 school year. May and June are busy months at Townsend Elementary. Please refer to the list of events within this letter for details on upcoming activities.
The quotes printed above, courtesy of our 16
th
President, are in reference to motivation and preparation. Lincoln was motivated by his friend's belief in his abilities, and he made sure to reward that friend's belief - after all, Lincoln did become president. I also like the quote about the ax and the tree -- the sharper the ax, the quicker the work. When our students (1) have someone who believes in them, and (2) put in the effort to prepare effectively, every student can be successful in school. I want to make sure we continue the partnership among the staff at Townsend and the parents and guardians in Walton. Together we can find ways to motivate our students and let them know that we believe in them.

We just finished all of the NYS English Language Arts and Mathematics assessments for grades 3, 4, and 5. We had excellent attendance, and I would like to thank parents and guardians for your support.
