Important information for the start of the 2018-19 school year
  • All notes or special requests for bus pick up or drop off, that were submitted last school year, are no longer valid.
  • Please know that not all requests may be approved. Many buses are close to full and regular home riders will get precedence over students who may be going to a babysitters or such, depending on the seats available.
  • Any special requests for bus pick up or drop off (ex: babysitters, etc.) will need a new note for this year. (*See NOTE below) Even if you call before the start of school, a new request note will need to be sent in.
  • If you have newly moved onto a bus route and will need bus pick up for your child, or have moved to a different bus route, please contact the bus garage with the information.

*NOTE:  Please contact your respective school (Townsend Elementary at 865-5220; middle/high school at 865-4116; or the bus garage at 865-4118. This will give us enough time to review and process the request and, if needed, correct the bus load lists and get them distributed to the drivers before the start of school.

We appreciate your understanding, cooperation and diligence in getting us the correct information for your child's transportation plans so that we can feel assured of the safety for all of our students.

Letters to parents/guardians

Townsend Elementary School

Dear Parents or Guardians,

At the Townsend Elementary, we use a PM attendance system for bus riders at dismissal to assure better safety procedures for all of our students. Townsend Elementary students who regularly ride the bus in the afternoon will be listed on an attendance roster for each bus. This roster will also serve as an important reference for a substitute driver.

Here are the guidelines:
  • If your child normally rides the bus in the afternoon, he/she will be listed on the attendance sheet as a full-time rider. If a student is riding to their home residence, there is no need for a note to be sent in. If a student is regularly riding somewhere other than where they are normally picked up in the morning, (ex: home of other family members or babysitters), then a detailed note needs to be sent in to the student's teacher who will then pass it on to the main office for review and processing. Notes should be given to the teacher first thing in the morning so there is ample time for all parties to be properly notified.
  • If your child only occasionally rides a bus, he/she will not be listed. On the occasional days they are riding, we will need a bus note before they are allowed to ride the bus.
  • If your child is going to an alternate location on a different bus, a bus note is needed that provides us with a clear explanation and includes accurate bus numbers and the name of the residence where they are going. (Please call if you are unsure of the bus number so we get your child on the correct bus).
  • If your child is a regular rider and is NOT riding the bus in the afternoon for any reason, you will need to send a note in to their teacher so it can be sent to the main office and noted on the attendance sheet that is distributed to the buses that afternoon.
Note: Please know that not all requests may be approved, many buses are close to full and regular home riders will get precedence over students that may be going to a baby sitters or such, depending on the seats available. It is very important that the child's first and last name, classroom teacher name and bus or bus numbers are on all bus notes. If there is any question as to the correct bus number, please call Townsend Elementary (865-5220) or the bus garage (865-4118) for clarification.

Thank you.

We appreciate your cooperation, understanding and diligence in getting us the correct information for your child's transportation plans so that we can feel assured of the safety for all of our students.

Middle school/high school

 Dear Parents or Guardians,

All buses use a load list for bus riders to assure better safety procedures for all of our students. Middle and high school students who regularly ride the bus will be listed on the load list for each bus. This list will also serve as an important reference for a substitute driver. We do not use a PM attendance system for the middle or high school students. If they are not to the bus by the time we are directed to leave by the administrators, they will miss the bus. The buses will not return for students who miss the bus.

Here are the guidelines:
  • If your child normally rides the bus in the afternoon, he/she will be on the load list as a full-time rider.
  • If your child only occasionally rides a bus, he/she will not be on the load list and will need a signed note from a Principal to ride the bus.
  • If your child is going to an alternate location or is riding a different bus for that day, he/she will need a detailed note as to where they are riding to and have it approved and signed by a Principal, to ride the bus.

Note: Please remember, it is very important that the child’s first and last name, bus or bus numbers are on all bus notes. If there is any question as to the correct bus number, please call the middle school/high school (865-4116) or the bus garage (865-4118) for clarification.

Thank you,

We appreciate your cooperation, understanding and diligence in getting us the correct information for your child's transportation plans so that we can feel assured of the safety for all of our students.
