Middle school students work with kindergartners to create coloring book Middle school students work with kindergartners to create coloring book
For the second straight year, Walton CSD art teacher Lara Fassler utilized a grant from the Michelle MacNaught Foundation to help create and publish copies of a coloring book for kindergarten students at Townsend Elementary. 

The book, titled “Coloring with Our Creatures” is a collaborative effort between seventh graders and kindergartners. The middle school students created, designed and colored imaginary creatures to teach kindergarten students the concept of mixing colors.
 
Walton CSD named NYSPHSAA School of Excellence for second straight year
The New York Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) announced its 2017-18 Scholar-Athlete School of Excellence winners, and the Walton Central School District was one of only eight Section Four schools to earn the honor. A total of 111 schools from around New York State earned the recognition. 
 
To become a School of Excellence, a district must have 75 percent of its varsity teams qualify for and receive the scholar-athlete team award. Walton’s teams had 75 (nine of 12 teams) percent of its varsity teams qualify for the team awards, which are handed out at the end of each respective season.
 
Third-grade class wins contest
Each year, third graders at Townsend Elementary works on a short research project about the history and science of the Cannonsville Reservoir and the environment in library classes with Barb Geidel.

The final project is to write a collaborative poem and submit it to a contest run by the New York City DEP.
 
Water for South Sudan 2018 WCS seventh graders raise money for “Water for South Sudan”
 
Seventh graders at Walton Central School recently raised money for the cause Water for South Sudan.

The organization ties into the seventh-grade curriculum as they had read the novel “Long Walk to Water” by Linda Sue Park. The book tells the story of Salva Dut Ariik, who is from South Sudan, and the hardships he endured as a refugee due to the civil war. 
 
Walton CSD to offer free meals to all students in 2018-19
The Walton Central School District will offer free meals to all students during the 2018-19 school year.

Taking advantage of the Federal Community Eligibility Provision, the district is going to make breakfast and lunch free for all schools. WCS has been already offering free breakfast.
 
Panorama survey results are in
Results of the annual Panorama survey are in, and things seem to be on an upswing at the Walton Central School District.

The surveys covered several facets of the school, including climate, communication, family engagement, expectations, instruction, leadership, and more.

Topical surveys were available for family members, students, and staff.
