Walton CSD named NYSPHSAA School of Excellence for second straight year
The New York Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) announced its 2017-18 Scholar-Athlete School of Excellence winners, and the Walton Central School District was one of only eight Section Four schools to earn the honor. A total of 111 schools from around New York State earned the recognition.

To become a School of Excellence, a district must have 75 percent of its varsity teams qualify for and receive the scholar-athlete team award. Walton’s teams had 75 (nine of 12 teams) percent of its varsity teams qualify for the team awards, which are handed out at the end of each respective season.

For Walton wrestlers heading to states Four wrestlers set for states
For the first time in school history, four wrestlers have advanced to the state tournament. The state tournament for Division I and Division II will be held this weekend at the Times Union Center in Albany.

Junior Caleb Robinson (120 pounds) leads the contingent as he makes his third straight appearance at the state tournament. He placed second at 113 pounds last year. Senior Bailey Wood (285), junior Chandler Merwin (113), and freshman Cody Merwin (99) all are making their first trip to states.

Robinson earned an automatic berth by winning the Section Four Division II title. The other three, who won class titles and placed second at sectionals, earned wild-card berths.

Update-  Congratulations to our varsity wrestlers that competed in the state wrestling tournament.  Of the four wrestlers that qualified, there were two of the wrestlers that placed in the top four in the state in the Division 2 tournament!

Caleb Robinson placed 4th in the state at 120lbs. and Chandler Merwin placed second in the state at 113 lbs.
